Forest Schools Curriculum Overview

Forest Schools Policy

Forest School is an outdoor, nature-based learning approach that encourages holistic development in children through regular, hands-on experiences in a natural environment. It focuses on child-led exploration, play, and discovery in woodland or outdoor settings, where children can interact with nature, take risks, and engage in practical, real-world learning. The philosophy of Forest School is rooted in the belief that outdoor experiences enhance emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development.

Forest School sessions are led by Mrs Murrell who is a trained practitioner and are designed to be child-centered, with the freedom to explore at each individual’s pace. Activities often include building shelters, identifying plants and animals, using tools safely, climbing, storytelling, and sensory exploration. Forest School aims to foster a deep connection with the natural world while promoting resilience, creativity, and independence.

We have a dedicated space in our school grounds for Forest school sessions to take place and work in partnership with Loftus Town Council to utilise the wonderful woodland space near school where appropriate.

We believe that Forest School sessions benefit our children in so many ways and supports them with the development of our school values – be respectful, resilient, be enthusiastic, be determined, be curious and be proud!
